March 22nd Update - Form Based Code Public Meeting

PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD REGARDING DRAFT FORM BASED CODE FOR CUMBERLAND AVENUE

Date: Thursday, April 4, 2013

Time: 6:00 pm

Location: UT Federal Credit Union, 2100 White Ave.

Who: This meeting is open to the general public and everyone is welcome to attend. Property owners within the proposed Cumberland Avenue District are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be hosted by the City’s Office of Redevelopment.

Purpose: To review proposed changes to the current zoning code for the Cumberland Avenue area. The proposal has been prepared by consultants, Code Studio, out of Austin, TX.

The City of Knoxville's Office of Neighborhoods is sponsoring its first-ever Neighborhood Conference for Knoxville and Knox County residents. With the theme of "Connecting Neighborhoods, Building Community," the day-long conference will offer more than 30 workshops on issues including codes enforcement, crime prevention and neighborhood organizing. March 8th Update

University Commons Official Groundbreaking
Mayor Rogero, Mayor Burchett, Elected Officials and Developers - March 6, 2013
Congratulations to the University Commons project which held its official groundbreaking ceremonyy on March 6th at the former Fulton Bellows site. University Commons is an urban, vertical retail complex that will feature two of the nation's most successful retailers - Wal Mart & Publix. This 211,000 sq. ft. retail center will be located adjacent to the University of Tennessee and the city's Cumberland Avenue Corridor Project. For more information about the project click here.

CAMA Update
The monthly meeting of the Cumberland Avenue Merchants Association was held on March 6th, at 3:00 pm in the Goal Post Tavern. The meeting was attended by representatives of Copper Cellar, Walgreens, University Liquors, KPD, City of Knoxville, UT Federal Credit Union, Regions Bank and Rumorz. The city staff provided an update on the Streetscape project, the proposed Form Based Code, the proposed project at 2010 Cumberland Avenue, the University Commons project, and parking within the district. The merchants provided updates regarding business during the past month.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 3rd at 3:00 pm in the Goal Poast Tavern; feel free to attend.

C-7 Update
The C-7 Board meeting was held on March 6, 2013 at 9:00 am at the Panera Bread on Cumberland Avenue. The meeting hosted by the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) was held to review a proposed sign package for the Krystal property. The board voted to approve the application and support the request for variances at the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on March 21st.
