August 30th Update

Cumberland Avenue Form Based Code - Final Draft

The  Cumberland Avenue Form Based Code final draft has been compiled by Code Studio of Austin, Texas, after a series of public meetings including meetings on April 4th and June 18th of this year.

This document is scheduled to be heard at the Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) regular meeting in September. The agenda for that meeting can be found at http://agenda.knoxmpc.org.

The monthly MPC public meeting is held on the second Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the Main Assembly Room of the City County Building, 400 Main St. For questions about the meeting, contact MPC at 865-215-2500.

If MPC recommends approval of the rezoning and FBC document at the September 12th meeting, the next step in the process would be for City Council to consider the rezoning on two readings.

July 15th Update

Public Meeting on Feasibility Study for Pedestrian Bridge at World's Fair Park

When: Tuesday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m.

What: City officials and consultants will hold a public meeting on the feasibility study for a possible pedestrian bridge at the World's Fair Park. The consultant team includes CDM Smith, CRJA and Sanders Pace Architecture.

Where: The meeting will be held in the commons of the L&N STEM Academy located at 401 Henley St.

Background: The Knoxville Museum of Art (KMA) consulted with Sasaki Associates in 2009 to create a vision plan that looked at new uses for the spaces around the museum and its connectivity to the neighborhood and adjacent City facilities. The goal of the current feasibility study is to determine the viability of a proposed pedestrian connection from World's Fair Park to the Fort Sanders Neighborhood at 11th Street. This proposed connection includes several grade obstacles including a pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks, with ADA accessibility to the park below, and a 15-foot elevation difference through the parking lot between KMA and 11th Street.

CAMA Update
The monthly meeting of the Cumberland Avenue Merchants Association was held on July 3rd, at 3:00 pm in the Goal Post Tavern. The meeting was attended by representatives of  KPD, City of Knoxville, UT Federal Credit Union, the S.E.E. Center, Regions Bank, Copper Cellar, Walgreens, and UTPD. City staff provided an update on the Streetscape project, the proposed Form Based Code, the project at 2010 Cumberland Avenue, the University Commons project, and parking within the district. The merchants provided updates regarding business during the past month.

The next meeting is scheduled for August 7th at 3:00 pm in the Goal Poast Tavern; please feel free to attend.

Central City Sector Plan Update

Starting at 8 p.m., the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will begin the KSO 29th Annual FREE Pilot Flying J Independence Day Concert on the World’s Fair Park’s Performance Lawn. The two-hour show features the KSO performing a mix of patriotic and Americana pieces. Conducted by KSO Musical Director Lucas Richman, this medley will be the perfect accompaniment to the fireworks spectacular.

Fireworks start at 9:35 p.m.

The City of Knoxville will host its annual business breakfast event on Thursday, June 27, for companies interested in learning more about upcoming projects and opportunities to do business with the city.

The free Business Breakfast event is open to all businesses and is set to start at 7:30 a.m. at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum located at 500 Howard Baker Jr. Ave., Knoxville, TN 37915.
