Cumberland Avenue Merchants Association (CAMA) Meeting Reminder

What: The merchants and other interested stakeholders meet to discuss items of interest or concern and get updates on the City's Cumberland Avenue Corridor Project.

April 20th Update

KUB Update

Re: Traffic Advisory – Road Closure for Utility Work [All closures and work are weather permitting]


Tyson Park Street Road Closure [April 23-27] – KUB will close a section of Tyson Park Street to thru traffic between Kingston Pike and the Alcoa Highway Overpass starting Monday, April 23, and lasting through Friday, April 27, as roadway resurfacing work is completed following utility construction in the area. This road closure will be in effect continuously during the listed dates. Access to Tyson Park Street and parking within Tyson Park will remain open via South Concord Street. The Third Creek Greenway will also remain open while this work is completed.


Some listed closures may extend beyond the scheduled times depending on the conditions encountered during excavation and construction. Appropriate traffic control measures and devices will be in place throughout construction zones to assist motorists traveling in these areas. Due to the ongoing presence of workers and equipment, motorists are advised to use extreme caution and expect temporary delays in these areas.


City of Knoxville - Street Paving in Ft. Sanders
To help minimize the effect on the neighborhood, the city has directed its Contractor to hold off work until after Monday, May 14*. A list of streets remaining to be paved is listed below and it is only the portions bound by 11th St and 17th Street. If you should have any questions, please contact the Engineering Department at 865.215.6100.

April 12th Update


KUB Update

Re: Traffic Advisory – Lane Closure for Utility Work [All closures and work are weather permitting]


Cumberland Avenue Lane Closure [April 16] – KUB will close the eastbound curbside lane of traffic on a section of Cumberland Avenue between Poplar Street and Phillip Fulmer Way as water system work is completed near the Eleventh Street intersection. This lane closure will be in effect from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Monday, April 16. One eastbound lane, the eastbound turn lane from Cumberland Avenue onto Eleventh Street, and both westbound lanes will remain open while this work is completed.

Henley Bridge Update/Neyland Drive Closure
 
Neyland Drive is scheduled to have a complete closure of all lanes from 9 p.m. April 13th to 7:30 a.m. April 15th. The closure will be in place from Walnut Street to the intersection of Lake Loudon Boulevard. Calhoun's on the River and the Tennessee Boat House will be open to traffic. This total closure is needed to complete the demolition of Pier #2. For more information visit here.



Fort Sanders Update
 
The city of Knoxville conducted a codes sweep on the western side of the Fort Sanders neighborhood on Wednesday, April 11th. For more information about the event, click here.
 
UT Update
 
Classes end on Friday, April 27th and final exams run from May 1st through May 8th. Graduation ceremonies run from May 9th -11th. 
 
CAMA Update 
 
The Merchants Association held its monthly meeting on April 4, at 3:00 pm in the Goal Post Tavern. Representatitives were on hand from the City of Knoxville, Goal Post Tavern, Graphic Creations, KPD, McDonalds, Regions, University Liquors, UTPD, Wolf Trees and University Commons Project (former Fulton Bellow Site). KPD provided an update regarding issues in the district and the merchants welcomed Officer Liz Vail as the new representative. The developers of the University Commons project presented their plans and had a question and answer session about their proposed development. The City of Knoxville presented an update on the Streetscape project and the Form Code. Additionally, city staff noted that a developer plans to invest $16 million into renovating the hotel on Lake Avenue and running a Hilton Garden Inn at that location. Businesses also provided updates.

April 11th Update

What: Public meeting on University Commons Redevelopment and Urban Renewal Plan

When: 6 p.m. Thursday, April 12

Where: KCDC office, 901 Broadway

Who: KCDC staff will present the proposed redevelopment plan for the old Fulton Bellows site along Third Creek, off Cumberland Avenue. A draft is available on the KCDC website, http://www.kcdc.org/. The plan is expected to go to City Council for approval at its Tuesday, April 17th meeting. It includes a proposal for Tax Increment Financing of the University Commons development.
